shíshálh Nation Education Department?imash ?imash?e shishalh s-wiya Welcome to Sechelt Land The shíshálh Nation Education Department is located in the House of Hewhíwus Administration Building, 5545 Sunshine Coast Highway. The Department delivers a wide variety of education,cultural and recreation programs to assist all shíshálh members in a variety of programs and services. VISION STATEMENT
The Vision of the Education Department is to provide shíshálh Band members of all ages with the highest educational experience possible for the enhancement of the Personal Standard of living and overall Quality of Life. MISSION STATEMENT
The shíshálh Nation Education Department's mission is to Enhance Education services with Parental and Community participation through financially stable programs..."It takes a village to raise a child" The Education Department is: -Committed to enhancing the quality of education for all our Band members; -Committed to community involvement in program development; and implementation; -Committed to ensure community awareness of programs and services. The Education Department responsibilties are to conduct: -Educational Assessments, Planning; -Education department restructuring of programs, services and staff to meet the needs of the community; -Enhance existing programs; -Collaborate with local and provincial schools and government agencies; and -Research new programs and services -Review and make recommendations for Education Policies and Budget; -Develop goals and objectives based on community needs; -Advocate with/for parents, children and community members. Existing programs in place are:Education Administration Building -she shashishalhem programs(sechelt language programs for 3-18 yrs) -Early Child Development programs - ages 0-6 -Supported Childcare Services - ages 0-6 -Mom ay mon Childcare Facility ( pre-school/daycare) -School District #46 Teaching Assistants and Special Education TA's -Youth and Family support staff -First Nation Employment Center (employment and training programs) Adult Education services for Post Secondary programs (University/College) -First Nations Liaison Advisor - SIB/Capilano University -Tem Swiya Museum -shishalh Cultural programs and services -Recreation programs and services Financial Subsidy -The Education Department provide a financial subsidy for Post Secondary Programs; -We recommend all students apply to other funding sources to offset their costs.
